Measure Countertops with Your Phone: AR and LIDAR Measurement for Stone Fabricators
Why AR Measurement Matters for Fabricators
Accurate measurements are the foundation of every countertop project. A fraction of an inch off, and you’re looking at costly rework, wasted material, and unhappy customers. Traditional tape measures work, but they’re slow, require two people, and leave room for human error.
Remnant Finder’s AR Measurement tools bring precision and speed together in one app — using the camera and sensors already built into your phone or tablet.
Three Ways to Measure
Remnant Finder offers multiple measurement methods to fit any situation:
1. AR Measurement (ARKit & ARCore)
Point your phone at the countertop area and tap to place measurement points. The app uses Apple ARKit (iPhone/iPad) or Google ARCore (Android) to calculate distances in real-time. Perfect for quick field measurements when you need a fast estimate.
2. LIDAR Measurement (iPhone Pro & iPad Pro)
If your device has a LIDAR scanner, you get millimeter-level accuracy. The LIDAR sensor creates a 3D mesh of the room, allowing you to measure countertop edges, backsplash heights, and even irregular shapes with incredible precision.
3. Manual Measurement
Prefer the traditional approach? Enter measurements manually with a clean, intuitive interface. The app supports both imperial (feet/inches) and metric (meters/centimeters) — switch anytime.
From Measurement to Drawing Automatically
The best part? Your AR measurements feed directly into Remnant Finder’s drawing tools. Measure on-site, and the app generates the countertop outline for you. Add edge profiles, cutouts, and material selections — then send a quote to your client before you even leave their kitchen.
Reference Object Calibration
For maximum accuracy, Remnant Finder’s reference object detector lets you calibrate the AR system using a known object (like a credit card or ruler). This ensures your measurements are precise regardless of lighting conditions or device model.
Works Offline Too
On-site with no internet? No problem. Remnant Finder’s offline mode stores all your measurements locally, then syncs everything once you’re back online. You’ll never lose field data again.
